Talking Galleries New York 2022

On April 4-5, 2022, Talking Galleries presented its first two-day art world symposium in New York, through a partnership with the advisory firm Schwartzman & Associates and directed by Loring Randolph.

Taking place at the Gilder Lehrman Hall at The Morgan Library & Museum, the conference tackled the significant issues facing the art world today.

The enticing program included nearly 50 top-level speakers, including museum directors, gallerists, curators, artists, scholars, journalists, non-profit leaders, and auction house and art fair executives before an audience of 250 art professionals during its two days of  gathering.

Topics discussed included the impetus for institutional change in art museums; New York City’s position in the art world; responses to the turmoil in recent political and the climate crisis; developments in the art infrastructures of Africa and East Asia; trends in gallery practices; the ongoing rise of data-driven art sales; innovations in patronage; and the impact of digital art technologies.

Marking its first major in-person meeting since the onset of the pandemic, Talking Galleries New York provided an invaluable occasion for exchange and debate around the art ecosystem after the two-year disruption.

With the participation of Carla Acevedo-Yates (Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago), Yto Barrada (Artist), Joeonna Bellorado-Samuels (Jack Shainman / We Buy Gold), Charlotte Burns (Burns Studio), Nicole Calderón (Calderón), Marek Claassen (ArtFacts / Limna), Christopher Cozier (Artist), Sarah Douglas (ARTnews), Maximilíano Durón (ARTnews), Lonti Ebers (Amant), Touria El Glaoui (1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair), Emi Eu (STPI Singapore), Elizabeth Dee (Independent Art Fair / John Giorno Foundation), Jason Farago (New York Times), Luise Faurschou (ART 2030), Victoria Gandit Lelandais (LITO), Melanie Gerlis (Financial Times), Marc Glimcher (PACE Gallery), Thelma Golden (The Studio Museum in Harlem), Andrew Goldstein (Artnet News), Michael Govan (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), Suzanne Gyorgy (CitiBank Private Art Advisory & Finance), Kathy Halbreich (Robert Rauschenberg Foundation), Julia Halperin (Artnet News), Ebony L.
