Mónica Manzutto
Co-Founder, kurimanzutto
After earning a degree in International Relations in Mexico City, Mónica Manzutto traveled to New York, where she worked at Marian Goodman Gallery. During this time, Mónica, José Kuri, and Gabriel Orozco conceived kurimanzutto gallery. Founded in 1999, kurimanzutto operated as an itinerant gallery for almost ten years, addressing a void in Mexico City by offering a platform for contemporary art that challenged prevailing norms.
In 2008, Mónica and José inaugurated the current gallery space at Gob. Rafael Rebollar 94 in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood. In 2018, kurimanzutto opened their first gallery location in New York, and in 2022 established a space in Chelsea. Since its inception, kurimanzutto has utilized different public spaces to materialize ambitious projects of the artists it supports. The most recent example is the public exhibition TITAN, conceived by Damian Ortega, which transformed derelict phone booths along 6th Avenue in Manhattan into marquees for various artists. Today, the gallery represents forty Mexican and international artists and continues to organize and support exhibitions and itinerant projects in diverse cultural spaces around the world.
