Víctor Barragán

Artist

Artist and fashion designer. He studied Industrial Design at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, although his experience has been mostly self-taught. In 2010 he founded the brand YtinifninfinitY, which explored the visual culture of the internet with streetwear that referenced the cacophony of images and uniforms adopted by the micro sub-cultural niches of the Tumblr era. In 2015, already established in New York, he created BARRAGÁN, a brand that plays with the pre-established limits of identity and gender politics through humor and irony, articulating biting critiques of accelerated consumerism, the vices of fashion, the media and popular culture. His artistic practice extends this criticism, making use of design to produce installations and environments that subvert the clichés of identity, revealing it as another commodity, configurable based on our consumption patterns. He currently lives and works between Los Angeles and CDMX.
