Artist and Founder, The Mothership, Tangier, Morroco

Yto Barrada (b. 1971, Paris, lives in New York) is an artist recognized for her multidisciplinary investigations of cultural phenomena and historical narratives. Engaging with the performativity of archival practices and public interventions, Barradaʼs installations reinterpret social relationships and uncover subaltern histories. Her work has been exhibited at Tate Modern, MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum, Renaissance Society, the Walker Art Center, Whitechapel Gallery and the 2007 and 2011 Venice Biennales. She has taught at Bard College, The Cooper Union, and the Vevey School of Photography. She is the founding director of the Cinémathèque de Tanger. More recently, Barrada is setting up The Mothership in Tangier, an eco-feminist color research centre and residency, complete with a dye garden.
